Innovation in personal care: a detailed look at hygiene rooms: Claire Barton, Haverstock and Jane Simpson, RIBA & NRAC Consultant
This talk will focus on how to design the perfect hygiene room. We plan to do a live mark out of a hygiene room so we can fully demonstrate to people how these spaces are used and managed in schools and other public buildings.
Our unique approach will try to explain the space from the experience of a child, young adult, and an occupational therapists’ perspective so we can fully understand all the different aspects of the design looking at layout, dimensions, furniture and equipment.
The second part of the presentation will look at innovative examples of hygiene rooms from across the world to show how designers have sought to move away from spaces that are typically sterile and institutional and instead create something that is very special offering real sense of dignity for their users.
The talk aims to help you gain a deeper knowledge in the following areas:
- Correct dimensions, layout, furniture and equipment needed for a hygiene room
- Understanding of a hygiene space operationally in the day to day context of a school
- Learning from best practice case study examples
